A beautiful white Scandinavian home in Concrete and white

Remember one of my latest blog crushes, the wonderful Musta Ovi blog where Maja documents the building of her new home HERE I showed some amazing pictures of the building process.

As from today I am even more in love.... have you ever seen a home as good as this!! The thing that caught my eye today was the beautiful concrete wall and the large windows on Pinterest, and later I found out It was a picture of Maja her new table!
Just waugh!! So my taste, congratulations on your new home Maja... and your new table, happy you finally got it!

A cool fireplace in black and concrete | Fantastic Frank apartment

A late night newsletter from Fantastic Frank is always a little surprise, this time it showed this home up for sale in Östermalm's, Stockholm. I'd say may favourite feature is the fireplace in concrete and black! Something I would love for my own home.

More of this home on the website. And if you love homes with brick walls like the one below, have a look at this other home on the Fantastic Frank website here

Inspiration for your home | New Ay Illuminate by Couleur Locale

Those who read my blog for some time now, will know my favourite lamps are those by Ay Illuminate. Beautiful lights with a bamboo frame and cotton covers that bring a natural touch to your home, I have two different models myself.

After being in love with the large version the Z1 for years, great if you have high ceilings or want to make a real statement! I was really happy with the smaller Z5 version. This lamp has been in my kitchen all summer and this autumn I will add it to my bedroom and dress up the metal rod above the kitchen table with some small concrete lamps.

Ay Illuminate, recently added two new lamps
to their collection, above (Z22 in bamboo and silk-cashmere) and below (Z22 with hemp cover), both available at Couleur Locale.

At couleur locale they love to travel and during one of their trips through Kenia and Senegal they made some pictures of Bird nests, one of the reasons why they loved to add another new lamp by Nelson Sepulveda, called the 'Birds Nest' to the webshop. The origin of this Birds Nest lamp is the same nest of the little Weaver Bird they saw during their travels. Both real pieces of art.

Felice 'Home of brands' | Sophisticated & raw

It is not every day I enter a store feeling really inspired... the kind of place where you love everything you see, do not want to leave anymore, and at the same time want to run home to just start all over again and redesign your home from scratch! I am thinking of an amazing new bathroom, sliding doors and handmade cupboards.

Not really strange really if you imagine that Felice 'Home of  brands', designed by Bas van Kampen, thinks the interior design is one of the most important parts of the store. Dominated by a huge table, showing a collection of fashion, accessories and shoes |Felice is also the name of the shoe label by his partner Anne Uyen| the place feels sophisticated and raw at the same time and everything is for sale, from the kitchen, beautiful in 'concrete' material, more about that next week! and copper, to the floor and curtains.

Nordic Design & The shop awards | Win $250 shopping spree

If you are, just like me, a fan of all things Scandinavian, you will love Nordic Design I am a regular reader of the site as it covers great interiors and styling inspiration, all with that Nordic feeling! The latest addition to the site is The Shop Directory, a curated guide to online shopping!

On the look for great content for her blog, Catherine, a self confessed Pinterest addict and online shopping devotee, came across countless addresses of retailers. She made it her personal mission to only collect the best boutiques of the web for her readers and giving some visibility to the entrepreneurs and some of the most beautiful webshops.

In August she launched her favourites in The shop directory. Shops have been selected for their uniqueness, quality, style and products. A great source on discovering Scandinavian products from up-and-coming designers as well as the leading brands. The site makes it easy for you to search by category, shop location, brand, shipping zone or Shop name.

To celebrate the excellence in online shopping Nordic Design & The Shop Directory created The Shop Awards 2014 to find even more of the best online shops. Do you know a webshop that you think would fit The Shop Directory, then why not enter the Shop Awards!

How to enter the Shop Awards

Submit your favourite online store, you can submit as many entries as you like. Shops of any size from all around the world can be submitted as long as they are in English, and by entering you will be in with a chance to win a $250 shopping spree.

Bohemian art | Paintings by hannah Kristin

It is not very often I get myself a real painting for my home, most of my artworks are black and white prints or photographs. When Hannah Adamszek presented me her work however,  I thought it was really beautiful. When she offered to send me my favourite painting, I could imagine it looking great in my home, especially on one of my concrete walls.

Enlightened Design | Elle festival 2014

It has been 2 months since I visited Dutch Elle festival, see my post about the Elle pavilion, and I still have tons of pictures of the exhibitions, installations and different design I saw during the two days I hopped from location to location. One of the exhibitions I visited was ' Enlightened design' showcasing the work of thirteen design studio's and an initiative of Connecting the Dots, supported by Doen, a foundation that supports initiatives for a green, creative and caring society.

I met the guys from Connecting the Dots last year in Milan, where we spent some time at Fuori Mercato, where me and my friend stayed during the Salone. It was also at the latest edition of the International Design week in Milan where Connecting the Dots noticed the attention to the ethical dimension as well as the social and environmental consequences of design products.

"It is notable that sustainable design is not necessarily packaged in a clever marketing story. Man and nature are simply, more than ever, at the center of things and have now become an integral part of the design" A small selection of pictures by Ilco Kemmere, more pictures can be found here.

I thought the work of Floris Wubben was pretty impressive. I loved the raw character of the vases and how they look like sculptural objects See more of the pressed ceramic at the website Pressed Ceramic

NOIR | Our current obsessions

Graphic designer Joachim Baan, owner of
Another Something & Co and  co-owner of Tenue de Nîmes kicked of with a new project. They call it ‘Our Current Obsessions’ "an excuse for all Jo’s hobbies that went a bit (or completely) out of hand" The project will combine the basic principles of an art gallery with retail and is always based on one particular online and offline theme. One of those obsessions became the first chapter of this new concept: World of Black.

For this first chapter Joachim teamed up wit Swiss lifestyle label Gertrud & George in a show called NOIR. Gertrud & George, known for their beautifully crafted black accessories line, have their full collection of 21 pieces on display in Joachim’s Amsterdam based studio.

On top of that he presents a ‘world of black:’ a diverse selection of curated goods and objects from all over the globe. On the walls (and window) art pieces by Ramon Haindl, Raymond Lemstra & Sybren Karst, Raymond Teitsma and Guido de Boer; on the shelves a mix of products in collaboration with several designers and stores.

Mr. Tubes | Sturdy black-coated steel by Anton de Groof

I totally love black-coated steel products, like the Mr. Tubes, a sturdy lamp design that holds two fluorescent tubes. You might think these lamps give way to much light in your own home but the tubes can be covered by a half-open shades, which can be turned upwards and downwards to adjust the direction of the light.

Perfect way to add an industrial looking lamp to your home and have the light shining upwards, something I always like more then light shining directly on the table. First seen at the
Marie-Stella-Maris store Amsterdam.

Black & White curtain rods & rail for your home | Roedes Online

Today I'd love for you to meet Roedes Online, a Dutch company that just celebrated their 5 year anniversary. Owner Jenny is an interior design consultant and works on a daily basis with curtain fabrics and every year she visits different fairs, looking for new materials and inspiration. After running her own company for 20 years she gained lots of experience with the various applications of curtain rods. Five years ago she decided to share this expertise online through the webshop Roedes Online.

The shop is for everyone and has become a real center of knowledge for solutions in curtain rods and curtain rail for stylists, architects, decorators and consumers. Roedes online gladly shares their expertise and also for missions impossible they will find a good solution in consultation with you.

Iron-cast rod 'Epona round'

When Jenny asked me to have a look at the webshop I was immediately charmed by the black iron-cast rods. To be honest I am always a bit fussy on how things look before I bring them into my own home. But these seem totally perfect to me with their different variations in shape, my personal favourite is the one in the middle on the picture below, called Epona line!

All rods are made by hand in a 450 year old family business in East Germany. Daughter Kathrin is an interior designer and is responsible for the different design. Father is the blacksmith and still works in the traditional way with fire, water, hammer and anvil, and the mother of the family is the quality controller.

Black as you know is my favourite colour and also happen to be one of the most seen colours used for curtain rods and rail in interiors from contemporary to classic. Find the black collection here: black rods and if you prefer white, there is also a complete white collection. Another great bestseller is the authentic scaffold tube, shop here to find the original ones made out of galvanised steel!

Looking for garden inspiration | Outdoors chairs

Summer might be on it's end soon here in the Netherlands but I am still determinate to finish my garden project in the next few months! Nothing better then a bright and light outdoor space if you ask me, when days are getting longer.

I am also looking at garden furniture and I think some metal chairs would fit the little plan I have for this patio, the chair above is the chair #3 by Afteroom. And below is a chair by HKLiving, which I think would be perfect in and outside. If you can recommend anything, I would love to get any tips from you on chairs like the ones in this post!

Black & White for your interior | HK Living new catalog

HK Living is a Dutch brand with a pure and contemporary feeling and looking through their new catalog I discovered some real beauties I had to share on the blog. HK living is well know in the Netherlands for their industrial lamps and cozy home accessories. I once had the pleasure to style with some of their accessories in a workshop I followed given by my friend AnoukB.

Have a look at their new catalog via the website HKLiving.... I discovered a beautiful steel lounge chair as well, I will show you next week as I have the perfect spot in another blogpost I wrote! Also the wooden bench and the cute lightning below are some of my favourites.
